This 72-year-old renewed Cape Point in Moss Hill community in Jamaica Plain features a set of four wooden ladder-shaped gold-shaped stairs. The front door with serrated glass panels and woodcut patterns leads to a foyer, a bit like an airlock in a New England home: before opening the French doors and entering the foyer, there is space to take off your shoes and place them in the main living area of the foyer closet.
Renewed regularly over the years, this house offers something unusual for the cape: two bedrooms on the first floor. Both have single-door closets, red oak floors and two windows. One room is currently used as a home office. The living room, dining room, kitchen and full bathroom occupy the other two thirds of this floor. The living room is just to the left of the entrance and offers some visually fascinating features, including a wood-burning fireplace, which is the original of the house but not used by the owner. It has a wood fireplace, a brick fireplace and a surround made of square polished glass tiles of various colors. The floor is red oak. The built-in bookshelf in the right half wall helps to separate the living room from the dining area.
The dining area currently has a six-person table next to a pair of windows, underneath is a string of six accent lights to highlight the artwork. A door with large glass windows leads to the deck. The floor of this room and the fully refurbished kitchen is cork.
The kitchen counter is polished concrete, and an island extends to the counter on the opposite wall, helping to create a feeling of separation from the rest of the home. The appliances are stainless steel, including a gas stove and heating drawer. The cabinet is made of maple wood with stainless steel hardware. The backsplash above the stove is mainly made of a mixture of blue square glass bricks. The pendant lights on the island are connected by strips and embedded fixtures.
A short corridor outside the kitchen is a complete bathroom with salmon and blue vintage tiles, matching mosaic tile floors, pedestal sink and shower/bath combination. The door of this corridor can also lead to the two bedrooms on this floor.
On paper, there are two bedrooms on the second floor. But now the owner realizes that the person who pays the bill deserves the most space, and has converted the smaller of the two bedrooms into a walk-in closet. This means that the closet is 22 feet long, arranged one behind the other, and has three windows, including a skylight. That is 266 square feet of closet space.
The master bedroom is nearly 300 square feet, front to back. It provides space for a blue shag carpet, three windows and a small table. The bedroom and the remodeled walk-in closet are flanked by a full bathroom with a white base sink, a shower cubicle with glass doors and tile surrounds, skylights and ceramic tile floors.
The basement part has a bar, a half bathroom (the tiles are in the retro style of the 1970s) and a laundry room.
The rear deck overlooks a gently sloping backyard. There is a one-car garage in the house.
BJ & Meredith Group, located in Unlimited Sotheby's Real Estate in Jamaica Plain, has been listed. As of press time, the house has accepted the offer.
